Treatment options for varicose veins

The venous system is a vast and intricate network of blood vessels stretching from head to toe that returns blood to the heart. Sometimes, the blood flow in the veins can become impaired, potentially leading to varicose &/or spider veins, which usually appear on the legs.

At the office of DXP Imaging, our team of skilled professionals understands the effects varicose veins can have on your appearance and on your health. We specialize in a wide variety of vascular conditions and will treat your case with the utmost care and clinical expertise.

Varicose veins are more common in women than in men and can manifest as a network of tiny blue-red blood vessels just under the skin to dark, bulging and twisted veins that run for several inches along the thigh or leg. Age, heredity, excess weight, pregnancy and regularly standing for prolonged periods of time also increase the risk of developing varicose veins. In addition to being unsightly, varicose veins can become very uncomfortable, causing painful swelling, aching, throbbing, or cramping in the feet and legs.

Fortunately, there are treatment options available. Most varicose veins and other vascular conditions are managed with non-surgical treatment such as compression stockings, which apply a steady pressure to the legs to help the veins and leg muscles move blood efficiently toward the heart. Exercise, elevating the legs when sitting, and avoiding long periods of standing can also help. Other treatments include minimally invasive techniques to seal or remove the abnormal vein, and sometimes surgery is required for patients whose varicose veins cause pain and infections.
